You can’t edit a blank page. Attributed to a few different authors, and so very true. If you’ve ever wanted to write the most crucial step is getting that first word on the page.

I’m Marsha, a writer, lover of words, and a life-long learner. I fell in love with writing in high school with an assignment to re-write a scene from The Pearl by John Steinbeck. I HATED the assignment, but after I got started something odd happened. I couldn’t stop! I wanted to write more stories, and a writer was born.
Over the years since that homework assignment, I’ve written everything from short stories to business standard operating procedure manuals. No matter the type of writing, the dreaded blank page and getting those first few words down remain the hardest part.
Making heads and tails of it all
No matter what your writing goals are, trying to find writing help can be overwhelming and confusing. One site explains why the Oxford comma is the only acceptable choice, while another site says it’s the worst thing you can use. Then one project refers you to the Chicago Manual of Style, and another wants AP style, and novel formatting is something entirely different. It can all be confusing!
I created Write the First Word, to help you find the best resources, best websites, and get you started on your next writing project.
I want to give you reliable recommendations, leads on tools, and anything else you need to bring your words to life. At Write the First Word I have pulled together my years of trials and errors from my writing adventures to help you start your writing project.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below, and I will be more than happy to help you out.
All the best,
